We are often asked what we do on Sundays since we live in the bush far from town. Well, last Sunday someone made that decision for us! Each morning we check for wildlife tracks in the dust surrounding our houses. We usually find duiker, porcupine, hare, civet and rodent tracks, but on Sunday we had cat in camp. And a big one!
It was most probably a male leopard who managed to cross the fence and came to have a closer look at our houses and research campus for quite while given the number of spoor he left. So we spent a good part of the morning following his tracks around to make sure that he crossed the fence back to the wilderness so we can be safe, and so can he!
